I made Mickey Mouse cakes with the old Wilton MM cake pan 20+ years ago for birthdays for my 3 sons; however, who knows where the pan is now. I would’ve done a better job IF I had my time to go over. I searched flea markets, yard sales and eBay, but no luck! So I had to go to plan B for my grandson’s first birthday party! I kept searching to come up with ideas, but until midnight the morning of his birthday party, I had no idea what I was going to do. My bottom line was that it had to insure that the MM Clubhouse theme was present. Decided last minute that I could construct the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cake out of fondant. Sounded easy especially since I had NEVER used fondant before.
Used the large sheet Wilton pan, cake mix and Wilton’s buttercream frosting, a box of Wilton’s fondant, food coloring and “meeshka, mooshka, Mickey Mouse!” One hint that I found out was to make chocolate buttercream icing and then dye it black. Also remember that the bright colors do get brighter as they darken. Overall the hours spent designing the cakes and cupcakes were time well spent. Comments and compliments of “who made the cake?” “where did you get it?” etc were great, but not half as great as the expressions that my grandson made when he saw it and “tore” into it.
Happy Birthday, little man. Can’t wait until next year!
