I made this Minnie Mouse 1st Birthday Cake for my daughter’s first birthday. I used a 9 inch cake pan for the head and a 6 inch cake pan for the ears.
The entire cake was iced with chocolate icing since black icing requires a lot of coloring and usually doesn’t taste too great. For the faces I did a pattern transfer- I had a large picture of Minnie Mouse, I placed wax paper on top of the picture and traced the outline with clear piping gel.
I placed the outline on top of the cake and used black icing to go over the clear piping gel.
I filled in the face with peach colored icing.
For the bow, I used the same pattern transfer idea, but part of it was made on the ears and other parts were made right onto the cake board. I filled in the bow with a star tip.
All in all, the process seemed to take forever, but it was very worth it. The cake looked great and tasted even better!
The pattern transfer technique can be used to make any picture on any cake, very simple with great results!
The cake looks good but the color not so much. The brown part needs to be black!
This looks fab, it’s so hard to make a cake taste good, with black frosting… brown is the next best think. Bet you little one loved it!
