I created a two-tiered Minnie Mouse birthday cake using pound cake and frosted in white buttercream. I colored fondant in red, light pink, and black and rolled out to make three different sized stripes. Minnie ears and bows for the top tier, balls around bottom tier, stars, and flowers for the top tier and base of top tier.
Minnie was created using fondant several days ahead so she would stiffen before placing her on the cake. She was created in 7 different pieces. Her arms/hands, legs/feet, and her head were attached to the body with toothpicks. I looked at a coloring page to get an idea of Minnie’s facial features, etc. I attached the fondant stars to long, metal sticks I bought from the floral department at Michael’s. Some of them I curled around a pencil and marker for different widths and some I left straight. I stuck them into the cake to create a bigger “cool” factor.
I love your cake and it’s spawned an idea for the cake I’m doing for my daughter’s 2nd birthday.
Beautiful work!
Love it.When I first looked at your picture, it totally looked like all of it was made of fondant. I surprised to read it was frosted with buttercream and only the stripes where made of fondant. That makes it much easier for me to duplicate it. I know it will be a hit at my grand-daughters 2nd birthday party. Thanks
Wish they sold this cake somewhere, it is beautiful n exactly what I’m looking for for my daughters 2nd bday! Great job
