I had decided on using Minnie Mouse decorations for my 2 year old daughter’s birthday. I searched the internet for Minnie cakes and ideas and happened upon this website. Immediately I knew I wanted to make this kind of cake (store bought ones are so pricey!). So here is my Minnie Mouse Birthday Cake.
I used a 12in round pan for the face and 6in round pans for the ears. The face is white cake and the ears are chocolate. Everything is store bought (cake mixes and frosting). I used whipped buttercream for everything except the black. I used regular chocolate and added black coloring gel. I was discouraged at first for the whipped icing as I read it doesn’t hold it’s shape as well, but I wish now I had done the entire cake in the whipped icing. As long as you refrigerate it every now and then when it gets soft it works fine.
I iced the sides of the entire cake smooth using black icing and used the #16 star tip for the top. I used a toothpick to outline the face. I piped all details first then starred the face and ears.
The bow is sugar cookie that I cut into a bow shape and frosted with purple icing and white dots using a large round tip.
This was my first cake I have ever really decorated. I am really pleased with how it turned out. We were getting ready to cut it and I asked if everyone had seen it and my Mom asked me where I bought it. I felt pretty proud of myself when I was able to tell her I made it myself.
Absolutely wonderful! Love creative people. I love to bake yet come up with a brain cramp and found you. Thank you for sharing. You are about to make 1 2yr old so happy. Wow if this is your first! I’d be starting a business.
What a beautiful job, you should be proud! I’m with JoAnn – you should really start a business.
Looking to make one for my granddaughter and I love this idea! Looks really good! You would have paid a fortune for this cake!
That is a great cake you are really good.
Hi this cake is amazing and I’m getting prepared to make my daughters mini mouse cake – but i have a question – what do you mean you used a toothpick to make the outline – whenever i try this it never works or i can’t see what i was doing!! any tips on this would be great! hope mine works as well as yours!!
You did an awesome job, Jennifer! Love how perfectly proportioned everything is – no wonky lines, and the colors are great! I hope I so as well on the Minnie Mouse cake I’ll be making in a couple weeks for my one year old!
:-)
Great job – well done!
I love this cake! I am wondering what color food coloring you see for the face color? Thanks!
The color of the face is Wilton copper. Just use a very small amount.
Your cake turned out great!
Hello! This cake is awesome I am looking to make one for my one year old but I don’t understand how you use a toothpick to outline the face and what color icing. Thanks, hope your still on this site!!
Not sure if anyone still needs info but first put a thin smooth coat of icing, also known as a crumb coat on the cake. Then drawn the face on that layer of icing using a toothpick. Colors are Wilton. Copper for the face, red, violet, & black. I used black color with chocolate frosting as it’s much easier to get black if you start with a dark color. Hope this helps for anyone who still needs it. Thanks!
