I made this Minnie Mouse Birthday Cake for my daughter’s 3rd birthday and she absolutely adored it, was jumping up and down squealing with excitement!
The cake consists of a double layer orange cake for the main head and a double layer lemon and coconut cake for the ears. It’s filled with strawberry jam and vanilla butter cream, and is frosted with vanilla butter cream (colored red for the sides and coral for the face). The ears, eyes and eyelashes, nose and mouth are made of fondant, as are the spots around the side. Finally, it is trimmed with a row of butter cream flowers around the top and bottom.
This is the most complicated cake I have ever made! It took around 2.5 hours to decorate. I hand sketched the face onto baking paper while looking at a picture of Minnie Mouse, and then used my baking paper template to get the correct size and position for the fondant features.
I really enjoyed making this cake and my children’s reactions to it!
