I checked Coolest Cakes website and took bits and pieces from cakes that I liked and this Minnie Mouse Birthday Cake Design is what I ended up with. The base is a double layer 14 inch round chocolate chip pound cake covered with white fondant. I cut the letters a few days ahead with 1/2 black fondant and 1/2 gumpaste. I used Waltograph font and printed the words from my computer then rolled the fondant/gumpaste and cut each letter out with an exacto knife on my scrapbook cutting board.
I placed them on a cookie sheet and covered them with plastic wrap so they wouldn’t dry out too much. Then I rolled the white and pink balls and dots and also placed them on cookies sheets covered with plastic. I made the bow out of fondant and let it air dry to get hard. The ears are rice krispie treats covered in fondant. I stuck a skewer in them before the fondant could dry. The top piece is a lemon pound cake in a 6 inch pan. I covered it with fondant that I tinted pink.
To assemble I inserted drinking straws into the bottom cake for support for the top tier before covering it with fondant. I placed the 6 inch cake on a cake board cut to size and used a bit of buttercream icing to help it “stick” to the larger base. Then I put on the letters and circles using a small paint brush dipped in a water and gumpaste mixture. The balls and bow were attached using a thin strip of buttercream.
