We did not think we could make our own Minnie Mouse cake until we saw this site and all the great cakes! My husband and I made it for our daughter’s 1st birthday party. It was perfect for our theme as we are all Disney freaks.
We used one 10-inch cake pan and 2 6-inch pans for the ears. We made 2 cake mixes then filled the pans almost full. They really popped out of the pans in the oven (they looked like muffin tops), but it was easy to trim them all down to the same size before we took them out of the pans. We frosted the whole thing in white then used a toothpick to draw the face. Then used black gel to outline the face. After that we used a star tip to fill everything in. It took a couple of hours to decorate.
The cake was too big for any platters we have so we cut the side off of a cardboard box and covered it in aluminum foil. I would suggest putting a plastic tablecloth under it or something instead of aluminum foil. It would be much prettier.
We set our daughter on the table in front of the cake and she dug right into one of the ears. It worked out great! She got the ear and the rest of us ate the rest of the cake.
Thanks for the ideas!
