I made this Monkey Around Cake for a co-worker’s grandson. It was his 1st birthday. In the recent months leading up to his first birthday the family started calling Andrew, “little monkey”. Needless to say the theme for the cake was easy!
This is WILTON Monkey Pan #2105-1023. I decorated it as directed except that I made the feet look more like a monkey’s foot pad, wrinkly, using Wilton tip#12. Also I substituted making the cookie shaped hat and balloons with a sugar ice cream cone hat and cupcakes for the balloons.
After I iced the surface of the cone, I placed it open side down on parchment paper to air dry. When that was ready, and everything else fully decorated, I put the “birthday hat” on the monkeys head, leaning into the cake for support.
I finished off icing the hat. I used a mini marshmallow for the “pom-pom” of the hat. Made it stick a dab of icing. I decorated the “balloon” cupcakes accordingly. I used WILTON cookie icing for the white background of the lettering. But you need to make sure it is fully dried before any lettering goes on. Arrange curling ribbons so it looks like the monkey is holding the balloons. Then ice over the area of the hands so the ribbon is secure. Place the cupcakes on top of the ribbons to make it look like a bunch of balloons.
ENJOY!
