My daughter requested a monkey cake for her 4th birthday. I’d never made a cake without a mold pan before. A friend gave me some pointers and I am very pleased with the results of my Monkey Birthday Cake Design. I actually used a stuffed monkey we had at home to model the cake after.
I made 3 9 inch round cakes and the balloons were made in a Wilton pan. We cut the pieces out and put it together then smeared a very thin layer of chocolate icing on it to seal in the crumbs. We let that dry and then commenced to decorating. We used twizzler pulls for the balloon strings. I started out with parchment paper on the board and it become a crazy mess so we cut it off after the decorating was completed.
My daughter says its the cutest monkey ever (as a mom that is really all the thanks I need). Hopefully she will let everybody eat it at the party.
