Cool Homemade Monkey Birthday Cupcakes

I baked the Monkey Birthday Cupcakes the night before (from a box of course) and decorated them while my almost 1-yr old and 3-yr old’s napped. I had planned to use M&M’s for eyes but apparently had eaten them all so I scrounged around and found Jelly Bellies and leftover Valentine’s Day candy hearts.

I used a whipped milk chocolate frosting, large Nilla wafers for mouth/nose and alternated between Mini Nilla wafers for ears and halved peanut cookies. Used red frosting pen to dot eyes, nose and draw mouth. The decorating was much faster and easier than I expected, hopefully will be for you too!

  1. I love this idea! I’ve been looking all am for an idea for my son’s 8th bday school party. You couldn’t pick a better theme when you look at the faces he’s made in every single family picture we’ve taken in those 8 years, including my sisters wedding!! He’s getting these tomorrow for his class, thanks for such a cute idea!

  2. What a great (and time saving) idea!! I was searching for monkey cupcakes since my son is turning two this week. He is crazy for monkeys. Since I have so much going on this was the best choice – very creative and easy! I’m going to uses black or brown instead of red and tiny marshmallows for the eyes. My 3 year old and I can’t wait to make them! Thank you so much for sharing.

  3. Thank you for the great idea! I copied them to a tee and they look fantastic! Now I’m going to add some gluten/dairy free ones with white icing and gf/cf cookies. We’ll see how they look.

  8. Thanks for the idea. These cupcakes were a hit for both kids and parents at my son’s 1st Birthday. I used a red gel frosting pen to do the nose and mouth. you may want to use something that will stay on a little stiffer. But otherwise- creative and cute!
