This is a cake I made for my mom for Mother’s Day. The cake is 3 layers, filled and covered in butter cream icing. I decorated the outside of the cake using the basket weave technique. I made the basket handles out of fondant – I shaped them and let them harden for a couple days before attaching them. I attached the handles to the cake using wooden skewers.
The flowers, the ladybugs (there are three of them to represent me and my siblings), and the banner were also made out of fondant. The cake board is decorated with Kelly green colored icing and green sprinkles to give the two-toned affect. After decorating the whole cake, I then put fresh fruit on top (strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and kiwi) and served within the hour. Needless to say she LOVED the homemade Mother’s Day cake!
I love your basket cake! Nicely done!!I think the ladybugs were a cute touch!
