This was a cake I made for a birthday gift to my daughter’s friend. I wanted a movie theater glam look. I love using petal dust to get the silver and gold shimmer. This cake was a lot of fun and had a few unique designs. I used edible paint to make the film tape around the cake and in the bow. I love that the bow combines all the elements.
The bow was made a few days in advance to insure it would be dry. I always make extra loops to me safe. I have had some break or just didn’t fit right. The popcorn was hand sculpted but was worth it. You can’t have a movie without the popcorn. It was fun to place random pieces around the cake. The movie reels are super simple to make, just 3 circles of gum paste stacked. I used a piping tip to cut out the smaller circles and then made it shine. I love using fondant for the perfect look but I always insure there is a good amount butter cream under it. I have also found that kids prefer marshmallow fondant.
This is one of my favorite cakes I have made. My daughter’s friend was very happy with her gift. I love to have an invitation, outfit or place to inspire me. In this case it was the place that gave me my inspiration. I like to draw up my ideas. It helps me figure out what works best. I hope this inspires you.
