I loved the Mr. Men books growing up and thought this would be a great and different 1st birthday cake idea for my son. I had only made one really basic snowman cake before this so I was a little cautious.
I had to make a cake big enough for a large number of guests so I made four 9×13 cake pans using store bought cake mix. I baked each one separately to ensure they cooked right and didn’t come out dry or undercooked. I did a rough draw of the size of the square I needed for the body to ensure it would be right for the feet. I then trimmed the rectangular cakes to make them square by placing them side by each and stacked them (I had chocolate cake on one side and vanilla on the other).
I iced the cakes down the seam to connect the chocolate and vanilla and on top to stack them. I used whatever cake was left over to make the arms. I bought the feet which actually belongs to a cake plate and then used a “1st” birthday party hat, balloons and basic ribbon for the balloon bouquet. I made a no-butter icing recipe and used blue food colouring to get the shade of blue to match. I used black and red Wilton tube icing to trace the homemade Mr. birthday from Mr. Men cake and add facial features.
Hi!
Your cake looks great. I can’t find a cake stand with feet. Where did you get that from?
Thanks!
