I used one 9″ round cake for this Mushroom Birthday Cake and frosted the sides white (I frosted over the top edge just a little bit too). Then I frosted the top green.
Frost two standard cupcakes and one jumbo cupcake, stems white and tops red. Place onto back end of cake with the jumbo in the middle. Add mushroom dots by piping on a thick dot of white frosting and smoothing down using a wet fingertip.
Then, place Mario and Luigi (I found them at Target) onto the cake – securing with green frosting. Also, use the green frosting to add sprigs of grass all around. Finally, pipe blue stars all around the base.
