My daughter wanted a Hannah Montana cake but luckily I talked her into a giant Music Note Birthday Cake since she loves music. This was a first attempt for me, but it was a lot of fun experimenting.
I used two 9″ round cake pans for the base of the cake and a simple 9 X 13 pan for the stems of the note. In total, it took 2 cake mixes. I made a pattern from cardstock first and then simply used that to cut the pieces of the cake and put them together.
For the frosting, I used regular store bought icing and added some powdered sugar to make it a little thicker. I experimented with the color and used red and blue coloring to get the lavender coloring. I made sure I made all of the icing at the same time to get it the same color.
For decorating, I used the Pampered Chef gadget with the tips – which is great for a novice and a large project like this.
We had some extra batter and cake pieces, so we made the star shaped cupcakes and the microphone.
The cake came together quite quickly and my 9 year old was thrilled.
My daughter wanted a music party so we made this cake because my daughters favorite thing to do is sing! The cake was beautiful and the kids loved it! We will always have memories.
