I made this My Little Pony Birthday Cake for my daughter’s 5th birthday. I am learning to decorate, on my own, so each cake is a new adventure and challenge.
The cake is a flower shaped pan on the bottom and a 9″ round pan for the top layer. Each layer is a different flavor with filling. I covered it in pink buttercream frosting, filled it with strawberry jam, and decorated it in light purple and white. I even incorporated 5’s all around the top layer.
The cake top is the best part and it required a lot of creativity. I didn’t care for any store’s cake kits so I bought a My Little Pony birthday party toy and used part of the box! I placed the pony, toy cake, and present on, making sure to have everything stuck well with icing. I used the cardboard table and presents from the box as well.
To hang the banner, which I cut out of the box, I had to come up with something on the spot. I did not have any skewers or lollipop sticks, so I used two tiny plastic fishing poles from a children’s game! I taped the cardboard to the plastic “string” and stood the poles up so it could be fully seen. I also taped a white cardboard backer, also cut out of the box, to the banner to cover it all up from behind.
This cake turned out to be a big hit and created many cake orders from the neighbors!
