Last spring I was asked to make a cake for a young man who had just graduated from high school and had joined the military. He had enlisted for 8 years in the Navy and was leaving for boot camp in a few days. Wow! What an honor to be asked to make a cake for someone who selflessly chose to possibly put himself in harms way to protect my freedoms. I knew I needed to come up with something special. So, I looked for a befitting military logo. I hope I did this young man and all Navy proud.
The cake is white with vanilla custard filling and marshmallow butter cream frosting. The top is made of fondant with fondant roping around the edges. The emblem itself is hand-painted, something I’m very proud of as I’m not really an artistic person. The cake went over extremely well with the family, and they’ve since asked me to bake two more birthday cakes for their family.
