My friend wanted a Nemo Birthday cake for her daughter. The main body is made with a standard sponge recipe, using a heart shaped cake tin. It was then cut in half and adjusted to give them shape. Then the shape of the face was molded using marzipan and stuck to the front with jam. The rest was covered in butter icing and left over night in the fridge.
The body was covered with orange fondant pushing it into the molded face to give the definition. White stripes cut out of fondant were stuck on and black royal icing piped down the sides. The fins were made from 50/50 orange fondant and marigold petal paste, cut out. The toothpicks were pushed into the ends after drying. The toothpicks were pushed into the cake.
