I made this Nerf Gun Birthday Cake for my son’s 11th Nerf Wars Birthday Party. I used an 11 x 15 pan. I baked 3 Betty Crocker Devil’s Food Cake mixes.
I froze the cake overnight to make it easier to cut the design. I downloaded a picture of the Maverick Nerf Gun off the internet and sized it to the size I needed. Cut it out and used it as a template to cut the cake. Use toothpicks to hold the cake in place while you cut with a sharp knife.
I put a thin crumb coat of frosting over the entire cake and then with a the end of a paint brush outlined the design in the frosting.
For the frosting I used canned Betty Crocker white frosting. Normally I make homemade but my son prefers the canned (why?) so for him I sacrificed this time. Although it is much harder to work with canned than homemade. Anyway, I used Wilton gel royal blue to tint the frosting and then used the medium star tip to fill in the blue areas.
I took a piece of the left-over cake that I had cut away to build up the ammo barrel. I used fondant tinted with Wilton gels for the barrel, handle, etc. and again using the blunt end of an artist’s paint brush made the indentations in the ammo barrel.
My son and his friends loved the cake and declared it was almost as good to look at it as it was to eat it!!
that look cool my cousin is turning 11 today and he likes nerf guns
