I made this Octopus Birthday Cake for my son’s 1st birthday. It was an under the sea theme.
The base was 2 9 inch rounds stacked, doweled and covered in fondant. Then I added the circled cut out of fondant.
For the octopus I baked it in the Wilton ball pan. Then frosted, doweled and covered it in fondant. I added it to the top of my cake and rolled out fondant “snakes” for the tentacles and added the fondant suckers.
For the finishing touch, I added little fondant balls to the edges of the cake. Not bad for my first try at fondant!
Super adorable!! I love this cake and you did a fabulous job especially being your first attempt at fondant. I’ve never tried it myself, but I’m searching for the courage right now.
When my grandson said he wanted a giant octopus cake I turned to the Web for inspiration and found your lovely cake! Bright, cheerful and I bet it was delicious, I shall definitely have it in mind when I start baking.
Thanks so much for your post!! It’s really helpful. I’ve been wondering how to make the topper part of the octopus and i saw your post. Thanks a lot..
