The bottom tier is 12x18x3 yellow pound cake filled with vanilla buttercream. Middle 9x13x2 is chocolate pound cake filled with vanilla buttercream. I used a wonder mold pan for the hill. It is chocolate pound cake with chocolate buttercream ‘mud’.
Jim collects punch buggies and his wife brought me one to put on the cake. Used fondant for the road. The Grim Reapers along the middle are edible images based on the invitations. Used size 3 tips for cornelli lace. Size 16 tip for small borders. Size 22 bottom border.
Painted fondant lettering with silver lustre dust mixed with vodka. Leaf green grass piped on top with grass tip. Red details painted on reaper using straight gel color in holiday red. Placed on thick sturdy wood board my husband custom cut.
This Over the Hill was made for a friend’s husband when she threw a 40th surprise party.
Is there a reason you used vodka to mix with the dust powder for the writing on the cake? Can you just use water or is it something to do with the alcohol that helps it to stick together? Doing a cake for my son on 9/4. Can you help me out?

thank you!!
The vodka makes the dust easier to adhere to the cake, plus, it’s tasteless and it dries quickly.
