I made this homemade owl birthday cake for my best friend’s 22nd birthday. I decided on an owl themed cake because I thought it would be cute and easy to make.
To start off, I made the bottom tier of the cake out of rice crispies. It provides a sturdy base and nobody would eat 2 tiers of cake anyway. The top tier is just a chocolate box cake that I made following the directions. I found pictures of cartoon owls online and just copied the design but changed the colours to something a little more vibrant. The owls are just made out of dyed fondant that I cut and shaped to get the look I was going for.
The bottom tier has fondant leaves that have little flowers on them. I made these using a cookie cutter to make it much easier. The icing is just a butter cream icing that I dyed bright pink using food colouring. The little balls around the base of the cake is just left over fondant.
So cute – did you make your fondant? If so, how?
