This Owl birthday cake was made for a 13th birthday. The top tier is white cake and the bottom tier is chocolate cake. The cake is covered in butter cream with fondant accents. The owl, paislies and beautiful bow on top are all made of fondant. The hardest part about this cake was the owl. My husband cut it all freehand from fondant then keeping it in place was a real trick.
The owl was heavy and it wanted to slide down the cake. We used toothpicks to place under it so it doesn’t slide down. I used a cutter to make all the flowers but the paislies were all cut out by hand. I had a lot of fun with this cake. It turned out really cute. I received a call the day after the party saying all the girls at the party loved the cake and it was a huge hit. I love making the fondant bows to go on top of the cakes, then just set it off.
