My daughter just turned 10 and my son gave me the idea to make her a pig birthday cake, she absolutely adores pigs! I got the idea for this from another picture on this site and then “embellished” it with some edible “mud”. The great thing about that is I was able to cover up any frosting imperfections near the base with the pudding mud. But more on that later.
Here’s a quick run down on how I made the cake. The body consists of two 8-inch round cake layers, the head is a mini round cake from a cake well pan from USA PANS, the snout is a mini cupcake, and I used chocolate chips for the eyes and nostrils. I used a rolling pin to flatten marshmallows for the ears, then rolled them in pink sanding sugar. Then I used 2 regular size cupcakes for the feet-just slice off the domed part so they will lie flat.
Now for the really fun part! I spread chocolate pudding all around the base of the pig, for the mud, and added a little crushed chocolate cookie wafer crumbs for some extra dirt! This was a surprise for my daughter. She loved it, to say the least! Squeals of delight!
