Here is a cake I created for my niece and nephew’s birthday. They wanted pigs rolling in mud. I used the Wilton mini ball pan for the pig bodies. I made heads and tails from fondant a couple days ahead of time and let them dry. Tails were wrapped around pens to dry overnight to get the curl. I used plastic dowel rods cut to between 2-3 inches long and covered them in fondant for the legs.
To complete the pigs in mud cake I covered a 12×18 sheet cake in buttercream icing, sprinkled graham cracker crumbs for the sand, and poured chocolate ganache for the mud. I added legs then set the pigs on the legs. One pig is just the half ball set in the ganache. To splatter pigs with ganache I used a turkey baster.
I found the pig heads very heavy and hard to sit on bodies without falling off, so I attached them with dowel rods. The cake was simple to assemble and went together very quickly! It would easily feed 36-40 people.
This cake is so cute!! It was very creative. I will keep this idea in mind when someone ask for something different. Your decorating is very nice. Job well done.
