I used an 11x15x2 and a 9×13 and a 6″ round cake for this Pink Fender guitar cake. I carved the body and the base of the neck out of the 11×15, the rest of the neck out of the 9×13 and the head out of the 6″ round.
It was red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. I split each layer to put icing in the middle. Assembled the parts on a cake board (supported with wood, this was a HEAVY cake). Sculpted the pickups, the bridge, tuning knobs, effects switch, and pickguard out of white MM fondant.
I made the knobs out of fondant covered rolos. The fret markers were silver painted chocolate chips. the frets were foil wrapped toothpicks.
I put pink fondant over the body and positioned the white fondant pickguard. Painted a small layer of pink pearl dust over the pink fondant to make it shimmer (didn’t turn out in photo) positioned the bridge (painted silver) and the pickups. Covered the neck with it. Brown colored fondant and painted with brown coloring to make it look more like wood (I need to work on that).
I lined the space under the neck of the guitar with black fondant to make it look like it was raised up.
We couldn’t find our camera so the picture is from a cell phone.
The strap holders are Hershey’s kisses. The Strings are real guitar strings held taut (well semi-taut) by toothpicks in the bridge and head.
