My grandson wanted a pirate cake for his 6th birthday so I looked around and could not find one like he wanted. I finally made one to resemble his invitations which he loved. I took a Build a Bear cake mold and cut off the tail and ears. I frosted it with a butter cream, white, added a patch and then a small hat. Voila! a pirate skeleton.
I also made 4 small treasure chests with DH cake mix and 4 small loaf pans. I cut them in half filled with candy coins, candy octopus etc, frosted with brown butter cream frosting. Accented with fruit roll-up then the four treasure chests were complete. He loved this! He could not wait to “cut off his head”. This was a simple fun cake.
