I cooked 5 layers for this Pirate Ship 3rd Birthday Cake and the finished product depends on the size of the cake tin you use. I used two full layers for the hull then shaped those into the hull shape, then I added half layers for the built up front and back decks. I iced between each layer to help with cake moisture and to hold the layers together. Then I iced the whole cake with a layer of chocolate butter icing.
My daughter bought a second had pirate ship which I dismantled to use the rails, rope ladder and pirates. The masts are dowel covered in foil and the sails are paper. I used life savers for portholes and smarties for treasure in the treasure chest (not really obvious in this photo). The “plank” is just a small piece of thin wood my husband had in his shed.
My three year old grandson absolutely loved this cake and there was lots of cake to share with family and friends at the party.
Very cool cake. The kids must have loved it.
