Coolest Pirate Ship Birthday Cake

My husband and I made this Pirate Ship cake for our son’s 4th birthday as he was having a Pirate Party.

We used two sponge cake sheets and a madeira cake loaf purchased from the supermarket which we shaped into a pirate ship. We then placed the cake in the freezer, having given it a coat of Betty Crocker chocolate icing before we did so.

Flags were made with some card paper, and skewers and stickers were from Big W. I decorated the cake with ready-made blue icing. The skull island is a banana cupcake with banana icing topped with brown sugar and blue icing around it for water. It was a good place for the candles to go too! This is my first attempt at making a cake and it was a hit with everyone. It was very easy to make!
