Bake a large choc cake and cut it into 3, 2 pieces being the same size and leaving a thin, about 2″ strip. Place the 2 pieces which are the same on top of each other layering with butter cream. Carve a piece out of the middle to make the lower deck and at the front carve to a ‘v’ and at the back round it off.
Cover the cake with light brown fondant and while still soft hand carve/scribe the wood effect all over the paste. Then put the ship on a pre-covered board marbled with blue fondant. Make sausages out of fondant and decorate the ship to your own taste, use the photo as a guide. When dry dust browns of all shades over the wood effect. Mix some gold edible dust with clear alcohol and paint all the sausage panel pieces.
The little island is made up of the left over cake as is the chest, covered with fondant and wood effect as the ship. For the water I used royal icing easily applied with a pallet knife swirled with baby blue paste color. The sales I used modeling paste and cut the shapes and dried them on a curve over night. I dusted the edges with cream to create an old look and hand painted the skull with black dust with clear alcohol.
