This pirate ship cake was made using loaf shaped cake tins, I made 4. Two were used for the ship itself stuck together with frosting. I used Betty Crocker fudge frosting.
My husband builds model boats so he shaped the front of the boat with a Stanley blade. We then used slices of cake to build the back and front levels. I then iced with the same frosting and then finer details with royal icing.
The sails are cut from rice paper and the ‘jolly roger’ drawn on with a licorice sugar craft pen (available in various colours). I then used Betty Crocker white frosting, which I tinted blue for the sea.I decorated the crests of the waves with edible silver shimmer.
The fencing is made from chocolate matchmakers and the cannons are biscuits which I dipped in chocolate and left to set before adding to the cake.
The only part of this cake you cannot eat are the masts, which are wood.
