I made this Pirate Treasure Chest Birthday Cake for my son’s 6th birthday. Two 9×13’s. I baked them, then cooled and stacked them on top of each other. The top cake was slightly rounded from baking so it worked nice for that over-stuffed treasure chest look.
I used a piece of cardboard wrapped in foil for the lid. I decorated it separately and attached it with wood skewers to the back of the decorated cake. I used chocolate gold coins, beaded necklaces and M&M’s for the ‘treasure’ and a plastic play knife for added piracy effect.
It was a huge hit!
