I made this pizza cake for my friend’s 19th birthday. He really loves pizza so I thought it would be funny to put this pizza cake inside of a real pizza box and surprise him. The cake was made from two boxes of yellow cake. Make the cake as directed on the box. I used a 14” wilton cake pan and it baked for about 50-55 minutes. The 14″ cake fit nicely in a large pizza box.
The “sauce” was made from white icing dyed with red food coloring. When you spread the icing make sure you don’t spread it to the edge of the cake. Leave a border to look like a pizza crust. The “cheese” was made from two bars of shredded white chocolate. What “toppings” you put on your pizza cake are really up to you. I made “mushrooms” by cutting up marshmallows and dusting them with cocoa powder. The cut marshmallows are very sticky so I put them in the fridge for a while. That made them much easier to work with. The “olives” were diced up black licorice. The “pepperoni” and “sliced peppers” were all made from fruit roll-ups. I used a small, round cookie cutter for the pepperoni.
This cake was a lot of fun to make and you can be really creative with the toppings and how you make them.
