Cool Homemade Police Car Cake

An officer friend of mine asked me to make this Police Car Cake for him. It’s peanutbutter cake with chocolate frosting covered in fondant. I used 2 9×13 pans, stacked the cakes then carved into the shape. I covered it in buttercream frosting and then in the black fondant.

I used pictures of his actual Dodge Charger police cruiser to make the details. I chose not to bother with the side mirrors and spot light because I didn’t want to have to worry about them falling off in transport.

  1. I just love the police car cake you made. My son is graduating from the police academy and I would love to make him this cake. What is the overall size of the cake. How did you shape the cake without it crumbling. Did you shape the tires or just put white icing around them?

  2. The cake is approx 1 ft long by about 6in tall. I don’t have the written dimensions anymore but I looked them up online (for a 2007 dodge charger) and scaled it down to what I could fit in a 9×13 cake pan.
Shaping without it crumbing is pretty easy, just make sure it’s completely cool and you use a sharp serrated knife (yay for Cutco knives!). If you make any mistakes you can always fill it in with thick buttercream. If it’s still not working for you then you can try freezing it before shaping.
The tires are actually made just of fondant. I shaped them by hand, let them dry, then used white frosting to decorate.
