My daughter wanted to have a “movie night” party for her 6th birthday. This homemade popcorn box birthday cake was a hit — first I started by baking a 9×13 cake. On wax paper, I drew freehand a general shape for the popcorn box filled with popcorn. I set the stencil on top of the cake and cut around the stencil with a sharp, serrated knife.
I did one layer of white icing over the entire cake. Instead of icing the “popcorn,” I found Gummy Popcorn at the dollar store and simply stuck it on the top of the cake. This added great texture and pop to the cake. For the “box” portion, I simply bought red “spray color” for frosting and shielded the white “stripes” with a piece of cardboard each time I sprayed the coloring.
I used a can of the black bottled frosting to write the word Popcorn on top (using the slanted edge tip). The kiddos were quite impressed!
