I made these Homemade Popcorn Box Cupcakes for a friend’s son who was turning 7 and having a big carnival themed birthday party.
I used the white jumbo cupcake papers and a boxed yellow cake mix for the cupcakes. I piped white icing on top of the cupcake then topped with a random single layer of mini marshmallows that I’d snipped an “X” on top of to make it look like popcorn. Then I drizzled on light yellow-tinted icing followed by several more marshmallows to cover the open spaces and some of the “butter” so that it was not all just sitting on top.
Finally I found a free image online of a popcorn cupcake “wrapper”. I simply enlarged it to the size I needed and printed it out! I’ve seen others that people color in the red stripes, etc. but I’m all for cuteness that’s quick and simple! I cut out the wrappers and then secured around each cupcake with a piece of clear tape.
It made a great display and was a fun way to fit in with the carnival theme.
