I have submitted another Pregnant Belly Cake that looks very similar except for I made it for a baby girl shower. I had a request for the same thing, except for a boy, so this is what I came up with. My instructions for baking/decorating it are under cake #31.
I had more issues with this cake, however and I will tell you why. First, I decided to do a chocolate cake and put a layer of frosting in the middle of the belly, BUT, I choose chocolate frosting which was a BIG mistake. I also frosted the belly and breasts on the outside, so when I laid my fondant on, my fingertips were touching the underside of the fondant and thus, touching the chocolate frosting. Needless to say I had smudges of brown all over the blue. I had to get creative with the swirly accents and smaller brown dots to cover my mistakes.
It was also very humid the day I frosted this and on the side of the breasts the frosting was literally sliding right off. All in all, it still turned out pretty cute and was a bit hit at the shower, but it did cause me a bit of grief, all my own doing, of course!
Very cute cake! I appreciate your descriptions…you gave me a great idea on how to fix little boo boos on fondant cakes (same color over-lay) :) The end result is perfect!
HI ARE YOU LOCATED IN ARIZONA? I REALLY LIKE THIA CAKE AND WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO MAKE ONE FOR ME. IF YOU CAN E MAIL ME BACK I WOULD LOVE IT:) erika_chris_babyschneider33@yahoo.com
If you add the butter cream icing and then refrigerate it overnight before adding the fondant you don’t have to worry about getting brown smudges on the fondant. The icing hardens when it is cold.
