I saw a present cake similar to this one and I made it for a book club I ran for young children. I also made it for my daughter’s 1st birthday. It is actually not that hard to make.
Prior to making the cake, a day or two before, you will need to make the bow. Cut 5 each of: 6″, 5″, 4″, 3″, 2″ strips, cutting an outward point or “V”. Fold the cut strips, rounding the inside and lightly pinching the ends together. Lay them on their sides and let them dry or get hard. The ribbon that “wraps” the present can be layed on without drying.
After frosting the cake, lay the ribbon on. Next, mix some food coloring and white frosting to match the bow and to attach it or use already colored frosting. (In my case, I made it red). Lay the larger pieces on first, getting smaller as you build up the bow, sticking them into dots of the tinted frosting.
Then, I decorated with large Smarties, mini- M & M’s and other assorted candies. This cake is a simple, but fun way to celebrate lots of different occasions.
How many layers of cake did you do? And what size pan did you use? Great Cake! My sister is turning 19 in two weeks and I wanna give this a try
What did you use for ribbon – fondant??
