This Homemade Princess Castle Birthday Cake took me ages and was the first attempt I have made at decorating a cake of any sort. I started about three weeks in advance, planning it on paper and in my head. I even made a model of it to see how it was going to look.
I baked a rectangle chocolate and a square banana cake and iced them with green fondant and pink fondant. The turrets were made of cardboard that I iced and dipped the tops in glittered, pink coloured sugar. I made the little flowers out of coloured fondant and I piped the iron gates in white chocolate coloured pink (and secured to the bottom cake with bobby pins).
The turrets had holes cut in them and were lit with battery operated tealights. I bought the figurines from the US on eBay as I couldn’t get them here. Think that’s about it. Just about cried when it came time to cut it. She had a fantastic day and I am pleased with how the cake turned out. May not be so keen to make another one though.
