Coolest Princess and the Frog Cake

We just loved the Princess and the Frog when it came out so my daughter decided that was what she wanted for her fifth birthday, a Princess and the Frog Cake. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any examples so I was going into it blind.

I just used store bought cake mixes in the Wilton Classic Wonder Mold cake pan. After it cooled I put on a crumb coat of buttercream frosting. I used fondant to make the dress. I dyed the fondant different shades of yellow and green then made the separate layers. The bottom is a lime green cut to fit the mold.

The next layer is a pale yellow cut into points. Then the large sage green leaves around the waist. I had to add a band of fondant around the waist to cover the gap between the bodice and the skirt. The only thing that isn’t fondant is the vine hanging from the flower on her dress. I used an icing writer for that. Then I added some green and pink shimmer dust to give it sparkle.

It wasn’t perfect, but my daughter loved it.

  1. I would like to know where you got the doll you put in the cake. My daughter LOVES this cake and wants it for her party now! Thanks for the idea! :)

  2. I just purchased the doll at Wal-mart around Xmas time. It is a little too tall for the cake so I had to bend her legs back and stick her in at an angle.

  4. The picture does not do it justice. You can’t see the veins in the leaves and how real they looked, and how the glitter made it shimmer. I’m sure it was as beautiful as a professional would do it. Happy Birthday Grand Daughter.Cutest cake I’ve ever seen.

  12. The doll I bought came with a little plastic frog that I tied to her hand with wire. Not very impressive, I know, but very easy.
