Coolest Princess Castle and Ballroom Cake

First, let me say, I am NOT a cake decorator nor have I ever taken a decorating class. But, I LOVE to be creative and push the limits. My daughter wanted a “princess cake” for her 3rd birthday. She loves to dance so I asked her if she wanted a princess castle cake or a princess ballroom/dancing cake and, of course, she said “BOTH”.

So, I enlisted the help of my dad to make the wooden platform. Everything on both cakes is edible. Only the platform, stairs and dowels are wooden.

For the castle: I made 2 square cakes, the first is the base and the second I cut and stacked. The turret bases are frosted rice krispie treats with frosted ice cream cones on top (all butter cream frosting). I just don’t like the taste of fondant very much). The door is a Hershey bar and striped candy peppermint sticks. Very easy but time consuming (I made the turrets several bases and cakes several days ahead and brought them out the day before for assembly).

Then I just did some very basic piping as, like I mentioned before, I don’t know how to do intricate flowers, etc. The “Ballroom” is just a one layer sheet cake. I got edible silver “spray paint” and covered two sugar sheets and cut them in squares to make the ballroom. I had purchased the princess figurines and placed them around. Oh-and for the working chandelier….I just found a dollhouse light base, went crazy in the bead store, and made by own “dollhouse-sized chandelier” because I just couldn’t have a ballroom without one.
