I decided I wasn’t going to go to ChuckeCheese and buy a store bought cake this year for Amelia’s third birthday. We decided it would be a home made party and cake. All 3 of my children helped me make this Princess Castle Cake.
We took 2 box cake mixes and put them in a standard rectangle pan and one 8″ round and one 9″ round pan. I covered a cookie sheet with tin foil before putting cakes on it. We mixed different amounts of red food coloring and cream cheese icing in 3 different containers to get 3 shades of pink. We used grilling skewers for the flag pole and gum sticks for the flags. I found colored pink cones at the grocery store.
We used purple and white gum drops for decorations. The castle doors, bridge, and windows are made out of graham crackers. The white icing ribbon was put on with a icing bag and one of those tops you find at the store.
The rest is pretty easy to see how we put it together. It took about 3 hours from start to finish and cost about $15.00 total. I am not much of a cook at all. I burn toast often but found this to be a fun project that my children enjoyed making with me. All the parents at the party were shocked at how great it looked. At the end of the day it was cheaper than a store bought cake.
I used this website to find ideas for this cake and just put this one together based on several other postings. Next cake will be a ballet cake, I better start looking now.
