Coolest Princess Castle Cake

Our cake was made for our daughter’s 6th birthday party. We baked a Madeira cake as we read on the internet that they were stronger for a big design. We filled it with butter cream and jam.

The turrets were made using small chocolate rolly-polly cakes cut to different lengths and held in place using long wooden skewers. The top of the turrets were made with sugar cones wrapped in fondant icing. The ivy was painted on using green food coloring and a fine paint brush.

We piped white icing to fill in the joins and tidy the cake up a bit. The little bricks were made individually as was the door, windows and flowers – all of which was very time consuming! We did wooden panel patterns on the door which can’t really be seen in the picture, but it looked good.

We glued all the bits and pieces onto the cake using melted apricot jam and a brush. Finally we glued on some pink sparkly sprinkles onto the cake to make it glitter. We also put star shaped sparklers onto the top of each turret on the day! Our daughter and her friends wee thrilled!
