This Princess Tiana cake was created for a precious little girl at my church for her 3rd Birthday. She loves Princess Tiana and just wanted a Princess Tiana cake. After looking at numerous cakes I decided to add a mini version of Princess Tiana to a 10″ round cake. I found a mini cake pick for Princess Tiana on the internet and was inspired to create this cake. *And the cake pick had stickers inside for the birthday girl so a nice added surprise for her.
The doll cake is made from the Wilton Mini Wonder Mold Pan that can be used to make loads of things – great add on to your pans. I also added a small 4″x 1.5″ cake under the mold pan cake to make it a little taller.
I made her dress from my marshmallow fondant and did my best to color it to match the cake pick. I used the large and small lily cutters by Wilton and then just used my fondant veining tool to draw in the leaf veins on each petal. The flowers on the cake are simple gum paste flowers with pearl center and luster dust for sparkle. I used the hydrangea and the different sizes of blossom flower ejectors available in Wilton Advanced flower kit for all the flowers. I did not make the flowers on florist wire because I just wanted them flat on the cake so I applied with butter cream icing and it worked well.
I did cut down a cake board to size of doll cake and put a simple support under her so that they could remove Princess Tiana from the 10″ cake so she was the birthday girls personal cake :D and this made the cake easier to cut and serve guests.
She was so excited to see her cake and everyone loved it. The best part of any creation is knowing everyone loved not only the way it looked, but the way it tasted! It is such an honor to be a small part of peoples special occasions.
