This Pug party birthday cake started with 3 ten inch round layers filled with butter cream. I froze the cake for a few hours in order to be able to carve it. I used a photograph of our former pug to get the exact shape of the head. The nose was the hardest part. I added rice krispi treats to create the nose and ears. I covered the entire pug head in fondant and then started to add tinted butter cream with a brush to get the effect of the hair.
I was inspired to create this cake for my son’s birthday. Our pug passed away and he was very much missed by all of us. Creating the cake was really a tribute to our “Pugsly” as well as for my son’s birthday. When my son came through the door and saw the pug cake he was in shock. He said it looked just like Pugsly and he almost felt guilty to cut it.
