This Purse Birthday Cake is 3 stacked sheet cake with icing between layers. I then shaped the top and sides to form a purse. I used strictly buttercreme icing and this cake fed about 24. Since this cake I have made many others from larger to a tiny “Coach” bag that fed probably three. I used ribbon for this cake’s handle but have also used wire with beads. The designs are buttercreme icing that I just drew on. So cute and super easy.
Hint* let the main coat of icing dry for about 30 minutes and then smooth it out with wax or parchment paper. This creates a “fondant look” and is easier to draw on.
Beautiful job, Dori – I wish I could draw freehand like that!
Beautiful I just want to learn how to do one
Thank you Thank you Thank you ….The tip on how to smooth the buttercream GOLDEN Been decorating for awhile and was given the gift by an uncle that died before giving me all the knowledge I needed..Buttercream only girl too…hate fondant, but never could figure out how to get the finish on buttercream the way you do (same way he did)…Thanks again
ps would love to see pics of “Tiny” couch bag any links??
I love your cake. Do u mind telling me more about smoothing the icing? Do u use wax paper on every layer or just the first? I want to try and get away from using fondant for smooth finishes.
