I have not worked with frosting much so I knew that would be challenge. I was trying to come up with ways to “cheat” to avoid issues with my lack of experience. As I came up with a few ideas I decided to decorate with candy instead of frosting.
This R2D2 Birthday Cake was a cake for my son’s 7th birthday and I figured what kids would not like candy? I would do it a little more careful the next time, but you get the idea. I used a soccer ball cake pan to make the cake. I got the idea to just do R2D2’s head from another site, but of course I cannot find it now.
I mixed black food coloring in white frosting for the frosting base. To make R2D2’s features I used blue coated chocolates (like M&M’s) from bulk food, string licorice, chocolate coin, fruit roll up, and marshmallow. I should have known that the kids would all want to coin. Luckily I did have extras. I just hope this spurs some other decorating options. Happy Decorating!
Pretty impressive Juls, I bet he had a wonderful time!
That is awesome!
Great job! Very creative! I hope we all can find that creativeness inside and be able to put it to the test…
