Well now it seems to be a regular job making cakes for nieces and nephews and Nathan’s was no different, except it seems to be getting more complicated each time they ask. A racetrack cake this time!.
I cooked two large round cakes and cut one edge off each. Joined them together with some jam and then started to decorate. I used butter icing which I had coloured in black to cover the top and all around the sides of the cake. To make the checked sides I rolled out white roll out icing and cut into squares and placed every other square in white and then left a space so it was in the end black, white etc.
For the bridge I coloured some roll out icing in grey and placed it over some thin plastic which I left a bit of the plastic showing at each end. I cut into the cake the width of the plastic and put the plastic into the cake up till the grey icing started. On the opposite side of the cake I did the same thing, making sure it was cut less in length than the plastic and icing so the arch can be obtained.
I placed three cars which were new but had been washed, onto the cake and this was the end result. Nathan was pleased with his cake, and so was I.
