Where do I begin, I asked my friend if I could make a cake for her son’s birthday, the theme being race cars right down to the invite. With that in mind I came to this site for ideas for a racing cake and found some great ones!
The cake is a 1/2 sheet home made cake with sprinkles (confetti). I added banana flavor to the cake batter since most kids like that flavor. The stands are rice crispies. It’s all covered in marshmallow fondant (so easy to make and much tastier that regular)
I used royal icing to “glue” the parts together (the edible kind with just egg whites)
and homemade buttercream frosting under the marshmallow fondant.
The race track is store bought black Wilton satin ice, if you have ever tried to mix black on your own its tricky and messy! Store bought sometimes is faster and more professional looking.
For the boards around the track I make the size and shape I needed and set them to harden 3 days in advance. The logos and race checker patterns are done with the edible ink pens (the best thing I ever bought). The people in the stands are Hershey Kissables.
The cade 500 is colored fondant I rolled and set to dry. The cars are chocolate race cars and the pit is piped buttercream. Now this part I found easier to do looking at the words printed out as a guide to get the words to fit better. So the letters are set in the grass.
The cake was a success, the birthday boy and his friends loved it and said it was yummy! The best compliment I think.
I think that this is by far the coolest race car cake i have seen so far on this website! i love the little herseys kissables, they are so cute! And also, did you buy the black frosting at the grocery store? or a craft store? im going to make a similar cake for my brothers birthday!! Cade sure is a lucky kid! :)
