Coolest Red Fender Strat Guitar Cake

My dad has been playing a red strat since the mid 80’s and I wanted to make an extra special Red Fender Strat Guitar Cake for his birthday. The body of the guitar is chocolate cake carved to the right shape. The neck and head of the guitar were made with cereal treat. It’s easier to shape and less likely to break when it is cut into thin and/or narrow pieces.

It is covered in marshmallow fondant all over. I brushed pearl dust on the body of the guitar and the pick guard to give it the realistic paint effect. The knobs, strap locks, cord plug, switch, and tuners are all fondant either left white or painted with silver edible paint. If I did this again I would use gum paste or modeling chocolate, but I did not have any at the time.

The screws on the pick guard are silver dranges (beads). The Fender logo was written on with a food coloring marker. The only thing not edible were the frets and strings which were made of wire (I just could not figure out what to use that was straight enough to look realistic).

Everyone loved the cake, but this cake took me almost 12 hours to make (baking time and all). It would not take as long if I did it again because this was definitely a learning process.
